We are a family run business, offering unique products and services with the aim to deepen and enhance understanding of the main events involving the British Army and their sacrifices on the Western Front in the First World War.
Western Front Witness is the brainchild of Jim Harkness, the author of 'Strange Times' whose first book, ‘Co-operation and Conflict: International Relations 1890-1930’ was initially published by Hodder and Stoughton Ltd. in 1991 and is still in print. He has also written two World War 2 textbooks which were published in the U.S.A. in 1994 by Marshall Cavendish Ltd.
For 20 years Jim was history consultant for a leading schools travel company in which role he helped party leaders enhance the educational impact of their battlefield tours. This involved the preparation of bespoke commentary notes featuring stories about local battalions, V.C. winners and etc. He also provided to party members (on request) details of the last action of relatives who were killed on the Western Front.
In 2012 Jim retired from his day job as Principal Teacher of Social Subjects at a large Scottish secondary school and is currently relishing the prospect of this new business venture.
